Who we are and what we do...
Free Cakes for Kids Swindon is a community service for families who find it difficult to provide a birthday cake for their child. Put simply, we match families in need and passionate home bakers. We work with local organisations in Swindon who work with children and families, who make referrals to our service. We have now made and donated over 2,000 birthday cakes since May 2014.
The cakes are made by a team of local volunteers, who also pay for the ingredients themselves. While most volunteers are amateurs, they enjoy baking and decorating cakes that often accommodate the child’s favourite theme or style.
We're always looking for organisations who can share the news of our service to local families. Please see our partner or volunteer pages for more information on how you can get involved. Free Cakes for Kids Swindon is part of the Free Cakes for Kids UK network. Find out more about the UK network of Free Cakes for Kids groups here.
Free Cakes for Kids Swindon is run by a small Management Committee of volunteers:
Laura Cain
Founder, Chair and Operations Manager
An enthusiastic baker and cake decorator, Laura founded Free Cakes For Kids Swindon in May 2014. She currently runs the group on a day to day basis. She oversees all orders, referrer and volunteer requests. With a full time job and two young children too, she loves to be kept busy!
Hannah Moxon
Treasurer
Hannah started volunteering with FCFK Swindon as a baker right back at the beginning of the group in May 2014 and now looks after any fundraising money we receive, overseeing all of our finances and accounts. She's also brilliant baker!
Jane Exworthy
Secretary and Governance Manager
Jane was also one of our first volunteer bakers, joining back in July 2014 and now overseas our committee meetings and ensures our policies and processes are all up to scratch. She also bakes amazing cakes!
